Devourer & Bloodletter

Hello again! As promised, there are a couple more cast members left to meet, and what better day to do trot out more skeletons than Halloween?

Though united in their shared condition after death, lichkind is not a monolith. The undead emerge into their resurrecting crucible from all places and cultures and time periods as very independent beings... and some of these enduring souls absolutely despise each other.

You might say the living dead have range. Some are territorial toward other liches; some are harmless. Some are tenderhearted toward humans in particular; some are threats to mortal and lich alike. Some have forged close bonds together, while others have become bitterly divided.

CYRUS

The Devourer

Vainglorious yet vulnerable, Cyrus once drew immense power from his depthless hunger — but now he is starving. A blessing and a curse, like Besarion's numbness, Cyrus's hunger is his eternal companion, and it has driven him to gleeful atrocities against both lich and human kind. His reputation is that of a merciless cannibal; in centuries past, he positioned himself as the god-priest of more than one bespoke cult dedicated to sating the unholiest of appetites.

The instigator of a deep schism between a more ancient brood of liches, Cyrus remains at odds with Besarion, the only member of the group who remains within reach. The others have either fled to distant reaches of the world, been subsumed into the void from whence they came, or in the case of one — been eaten raw by Cyrus himself.

The Devourer sets his sights elsewhere instead: to a hub of human activity called Wratun where he plans to feast well indeed. Cyrus, however, does not excel at making plans.

SEREGIST

Bloodletter Priestess

Seregist is intimately familiar with the ever-shifting interior of the liches' realm, for it is her habit to remain safe within the embrace of that crucible. Though she delights in humanity, Seregist finds the living realm overwhelming to the senses and retreats where all undead return in some form once unmoored from their flesh. Humankind's struggle for existence is so feverishly intense. She draws energy from others' strong emotions and has cultivated occult gifts of her own.

She prefers to incarnate only seldomly, allowing herself to cavort in her carnal robes roughly once per century. She chooses not to cross realms into Wratun as her kith have, but she remains in contact with them in arcane ways, always pleased to learn of their exploits. While the incarnated perform on the mortal stage, Seregist is their rapt audience and their Greek chorus.

At last, Cyrus is now everybody's problem. A significant element of the game will involve avoiding circumstances in which Cyrus may maim or kill you.

All player characters will have the misfortune of experiencing different encounters with Cyrus, but only Laurence will have the opportunity to confront him directly. Laurence is also uniquely able to communicate with Seregist, though her influence is sometimes felt on the mortal realm, even if Yasha and Sully are unable to recognize it...

Thank you as always for reading! In the future I'll have more interactive elements to delve into and topics to explore. In the meantime, Happy Halloween!
