A downloadable game

like the gods of the Greeks, he would be strong, and fleet, and joyous.

A short proof-of concept prototype made for #PDJam, aka Public Domain Jam 3: Unscripted! The source material I chose was Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. The game would ideally involve exploring more short vignettes centered around Dorian's vices. It's "unscripted" in the sense that it doesn't contextualize the gameplay within a specific scene from the novel and is more about expanding on notable ideas from the text; it relies on characters and dialogue that have never appeared in the source material.

I've been excited to participate in this jam for a while, but I wound up delayed a lot by certain life events (academic obligations, moving) for most of the jam's duration -- so I only had a little over 48 hours to work on making something brief but playable, which is why this is more of a prototype than anything. Most of my energy was expended here doing supplementary artwork, eventing, and figuring out minor scripting alterations.

It's definitely short and I couldn't go too nuts customizing tilesets and spritework or writing exhaustive flavortext, but I hope it's enjoyable! If possible, I'd like to expand on this some time in the future for the sake of producing a more finished game.

ETA: As of November 2016, a download is no longer available. I'm unlikely to work on this project any further, but this page is still here as proof-of-concept!

"He is all my art to me now," said the painter gravely. [...] "Unconsciously he defines for me the lines of a fresh school, a school that is to have in it all the passion of the romantic spirit, all the perfection of the spirit that is Greek."

Has this game's download been taken down? I was curious about playing it a bit.

i removed the download a while back because i wasn't too satisfied with this project, but i'd be okay with putting it back up for a bit for now! thanks for your interest!
